Eyal & Marilyn Ofer Family Foundation Establishes Scholarship Program

The Eyal & Marilyn Ofer Family Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of a new education and training scholarship programme to support New Zealand citizens and permanent residents who want to pursue advanced degrees and careers in the New Zealand petroleum industry.

This programme will build on investments by Ofer Global companies in New Zealand – most recently in January 2018 when a subsidiary of Ofer Global’s energy arm, O.G. Energy, became a majority shareholder in New Zealand Oil & Gas.

Through its New Zealand Oil & Gas investment and another previous investment providing key infrastructure to the Maari field offshore New Zealand, Ofer Global has already made a substantial commitment to developing the skills of New Zealand’s workforce.

The Foundation is pleased to expand on Ofer Global’s previous investment in New Zealand by committing NZ$200,000 towards the following:

(i) Two scholarships towards an MSc in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot Watt (or an equivalent institution) by distance learning.
(ii) Two scholarships towards a Bachelor of Engineering (either Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering), offered to students at the University of Auckland (or an equivalent institution). The scholarships will initially be for one year, with an option to renew for an additional three years, subject to meeting criteria for maintaining the scholarship.
(iii) One scholarship towards a Bachelor of Geology offered to students at the University of Otago (or an equivalent institution). The scholarships will initially be for one year, with an option to renew for an additional three years, subject certain criteria.
(iv) One scholarship towards an MSc in Geophysics, through Victoria University of Wellington’s post-graduate program (or an equivalent institution).

The Foundation will disburse NZ$50,000 per year over a four-year period (for a total of NZ$200,000) to provide these opportunities.

We are grateful for the support of New Zealand Oil & Gas, which will continue to work with the selected universities, educational institutions, industry groups and other stakeholders on administering the programs on an annual basis, including selection criteria and the identification of candidates. We hope and anticipate that the ongoing collaboration between the Foundation, Ofer Global, New Zealand Oil & Gas and others in the New Zealand petroleum industry will lead to many exciting future opportunities for interested students.

The Foundation intends that the first recipients of scholarships will be identified during 2019.
